Images drawn from medieval documentary sources provide insight into the occupations of the Jewish men and women of Girona. Craftsmanship, trade and moneylending were their principal economic activities. In addition, the literacy required of boys by the Jewish religion encouraged a high degree of scientific specialisation, giving rise to renowned physicians, cartographers and astronomers.
