Material heritage. The archaeological remains

The Museum occupies several properties that once formed part of the city's Jewish Quarter. In 1435, the Jewish community built here the last medieval synagogue in Girona, which remained in use until 1492. Following the conversion or expulsion of the last Jews of Girona, the buildings remained in private ownership until the 1980s. At that time, restoration works began to transform the site into the centre for the recovery and interpretation of the city's Jewish heritage. In 2014, an important feature was identified: the women's ritual bath, or mikveh, which preserves its original structure despite having been converted into a cistern in later centuries.
