This stele was found at the end of the 20th century on the side of a path in an area near Girona and was kept by private individuals until 2026, when it was donated to the Museum of Jewish History. It originally came from the Jewish cemetery of Montjuïc (Girona).
This is a fragment of a funerary stele showing the ends of two lines of text. The right-hand side was cut away for use as building material at an undetermined date after the expulsion of the Jews in 1492 and the resulting dispersal of the cemetery's stones. The very simple inscription probably contained only the name and lineage of the deceased, together with a brief concluding formula.
Translation:
[Ye]hoshua, son of Rabbi
[Z]erahia. Blessed be the memory of him.
