Women's Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 to promote feminism and denounce gender inequalities in the workplace. Its origins lie in the struggles for women’s inclusion in the labour market and for women’s suffrage. This day has been celebrated in different countries since the early 20th century, but it was in 1977 when the United Nations officially declared March 8 as International Women’s Day.

At the Municipal Archive of Girona, in recent years we have carried out various activities and online resources highlighting the role of women in history and their presence in the documentation preserved in archives.
