The Municipal Archive of Girona is the City Council’s specialised service for the management, processing and preservation of documents, regardless of their date, type or format. For this purpose, it is structured into three information units:
The Administrative Archive is the body responsible for managing the City Council’s Records Management System, whose function is to plan the standardised production and homogeneous organisation of administrative documentation, while also guaranteeing access and consultation.
The Historical Archive manages and preserves all documentation produced by Girona City Council over the centuries as the governing institution of the city, especially from the 14th century onwards, and which has been preserved to provide evidence and testimony of municipal activity.
The Image Research and Dissemination Centre (CRDI) specifically manages and preserves photographic, audiovisual and sound documents produced by Girona City Council, as well as fonds and collections from individuals, companies and organisations in the municipality.
The Municipal Archive of Girona also has a specialised library, with notable sections including the newspaper archive and publications specifically related to the city of Girona, the history and evolution of photographic and audiovisual imagery, as well as archival science. The collection includes publications from the 15th century to the present day. The library is located within the facilities of the Municipal Archive of Girona.
The Municipal Publications Service is responsible for coordinating the editorial production of Girona City Council. Particularly active since 1980, the various publications issued each year are organised into more than 30 collections covering different topics always related to the social and territorial context of Girona: history, art, photography, urban planning, etc. The service also aims to participate in co-publishing and collaborate in the publication of any work that may be of interest to the citizens of Girona.
