“Each language represents a way of seeing the world”
Each language is a way of seeing the world. Behind this simple statement lies a profound reflection: a language is not just a communication code; it is a complex system with particular characteristics that enable it to express the social reality of its speakers. A person's mother tongue marks their origin and shapes their personal memory. In the current multilingual context of Catalonia and Girona, the incorporation of a new language, the language of the host country, should never mean the loss of one's mother tongue, but at the same time, we should uphold Catalan as a language of intercommunication and social cohesion. This multilingualism offers an enormous cultural wealth that must be preserved and an opportunity to strengthen our own language as a common language for intercultural communication. If we can make Catalan our lingua franca, whilst respecting each person's mother tongue, we will achieve greater social cohesion and the definitive empowerment of our language. The strength of a society is always tied to the strength of its language.
This audiovisual production brings together the narratives, expressions, feelings and life stories of people from different geographical and cultural origins who have settled in Girona and made it their home. They are part of the city's present and future and they communicate it from their most essential means of expression -in the words of their mother tongue.
