Four works by Ricard Guió are incorporated into the Municipal Art Fund preserved by the Girona History Museum

Tuesday, September 12, 2023

This is a donation of four drawings in ink, charcoal and pencil, from the family collection of Ricard Guió, and from the beginning of the 19th century. XX. Mrs. Corine Guió, widow of Michel Guió (son of Ricard Guió), made the donation and the transfer was made through Mr. Lluís Oliver, a friend of the family, who deposited them in the Museum, and they will be integrated into the Collection of Art of the Girona City Council.

For more than 30 years, the Girona History Museum has had a collection of works by the Girona artist Ricard Guinó (Girona, Gironès, 1890 - Antony, France, 1973). Guinó was part of the Girona art movement where he exhibited in 1908. In 1910 he participated in the Barcelona Portrait Exhibition and met Maillol, with whom he went to Paris as a disciple. Established in Paris, where he worked and lived most of his life, he went on to work as an assistant and collaborator of the artist Auguste Renoir, to the point that he was co-author of many of his sculptures. The collection of Ricard Guió, from the Girona museum, is of great importance for the history of art, not only in the city, but also at a European level. The given works will become part of this important collection, increasing their value.

The donation coincides with the holding of the exhibition “Guino-Renoir. La couleur de la sculpture”, at the Musée d'Art Rigaud, in Perpignan, where Guió's works from the Fund of the History Museum of Girona are exhibited. This exhibition, which can be visited until November 5, is another example of the relevance of municipal art collections, which are increasingly present in both national and international exhibitions.
