Lepret wanders among us like a tormented soul, transgressing the status quo of our town.

He roams, grief-stricken and hidden, through the narrow streets, stairways and damp walls of the Barri Vell. A curse has turned him to stone.

Only a few have seen him convulse and shake with fury upon hearing the clattering bells of the Cathedral. Very few have been able to bear witness to it.

"Lepret is good," they would say.

Edu Sívori Alt, an Argentine poet who has lived in Girona for more than twenty-five years, created Lepret: a new legend for the Catalan city, one that has captivated the hearts of its finest writers and artists.

Lepret is the other, the outsider. We are all Lepret.

In the damp stains upon the stones of medieval Girona lived - and, on some days, still lives - a monk and poet named Lepret. Hunchbacked, one-eyed, with long, weathered hair and skin scaled like that of a fish or a leper, he was most likely of French origin.

Contemporary witnesses claim that such an unnatural creature hides beneath the robes of a monk who wanders through the city's old quarter at night.

The legend is nothing less than freedom of conscience - the force that determines the construction of true social justice.
