This exhibition shows, through photographs, how the proclamation of the Republic in Catalonia was experienced. How they made it effective from the different municipalities and how they celebrated it during the hours that followed. A proclamation that was peaceful, festive, exciting and that was an outburst of joy before a new historical stage.
Three days in April 1931 gave rise to what some authors have called the republican dream. The days from April 14 to 17, which served to proclaim the Republic, were full of joy and emotion for a large part of the citizenry, who had been waiting for a political change for decades. The new republican project was associated with profound changes in the political life of a country that up to that date had been marked by authoritarianism, caciquismo and corruption. All hopes were placed on the beginning of a new stage that would bring equality through the progressive socialization of wealth, secularism and responding to the demands of women and freedoms.
It is an exhibition with great documentary value, which has been nurtured with images from various local and regional archives.
