This was the first of the three large new plant collective shelters that began to be built in February 1938, cellular type and vaguely oval in shape, occupying almost the same physical space underground as the garden of the surface Designed by the then municipal architect Ricard Giralt Casadesús, it totals 584.67 m² constructed, 357.86 m² of which were useful (corridor and stairs included). It consists of two entrances, one at each end (currently only accessible from the north) connected through a long (39.07 m) and wide (1.30 m) corridor, which at the same time serves as a communication link of the ten different dependencies inside, which, through open doors in the thick walls, are also connected to each other. The walls were built of reinforced cement, as well as the protective layer on the Catalan vault.

It had capacity for more than 600 people. It had electric lights and despite the fact that spaces for toilets and a first aid kit were created under the access stairs, these never materialized and it also had no running water. It was a cold place and extremely wet from the multiple leaks with the rain. Some witnesses point to the existence of some simple wooden benches with three slats without a backrest. The interior ventilation was achieved through its two accesses, no door of any kind was ever put there, it was always open, and also through 27 ventilation tubes, as if they were small cylindrical chimneys that communicated with the outside.

Organized by: Girona History Museum. Girona City Council. Collaboration: Girona Provincial Council, Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Limited capacity, prior registration is necessary.. Jardí de la Infància shelter is an extension of the MHG, which is part of the Network of Spaces of Democratic Memory.
