More than 500 people take part in the European Heritage Days activities

Wednesday, October 14, 2026

A weekend of open days and activities to discover the heritage and a Girona you didn't yet know.

As part of the European Heritage Days, the Museu d'Història de Girona organised an open weekend at the museum and at the temporary exhibition Repression, Pleasure and Freedom, which explores the origins of LGTBIQA+ activism in Girona and the surrounding counties. Two free activities were also offered, inviting participants to discover the city's stories from new perspectives. Both activities filled up quickly.

One of the highlights was the launch of the new walking tour Colonial Footprints in Girona, an invitation to see the city through a different lens, explore the connections between Girona and the colonial world, bring to light stories often missing from mainstream historical narratives, and reflect on how the colonial past remains present in urban spaces. Organised in collaboration with Ateneu Terres Gironines, the activity stems from research by Inty Bachué Buelvas Díaz, community engagement facilitator at the Museu d'Història de Girona, with the support of the Semilla Migrante collective.

The other activity was a new performance of the dramatised tour La Queta, la Consol and the Experiences of Wartime, presented by the theatre company La Minúscula. This moving journey explored the memories of two girls from Girona, Consol Colomer and Enriqueta Baulida, whose recollections bring to life the city during the bombing raids of the Spanish Civil War. The activity is part of the "Escenaris de la Història" (Stages of History) project, promoted by the Xarxa de Museus d'Història i Monuments de Catalunya (Network of History Museums and Monuments of Catalonia).

We would like to thank the 567 people who took part in these activities. Further sessions will be announced soon for everyone who has been placed on the waiting list.
