Museu d'Història de Girona digitises three of its most outstanding pieces in 3D

The initiative, funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya, aims to improve access to cultural heritage and open up new opportunities for research, conservation and dissemination.

The Museu d'Història de Girona has created 3D digital models of three representative pieces from the collections of the Ajuntament de Girona. The project was funded through a grant from the Generalitat de Catalunya aimed at the inventory and documentation of cultural heritage objects held by Catalan museums, and was carried out in collaboration with specialist company NUBILUM.

The works selected for this new digitisation project are the Cathedral Angel, the Reliquary of Saint Narcissusl,, and Ademánl, a sculpture by Ángel Ferrantl,. The three-dimensional models of these pieces can now be accessed directly through the museum's website.

Technology in the service of heritage

The main aim of this initiative is to ensure and expand public access to Girona's municipal heritage. At the same time, the project seeks to establish 3D technology as a regular working tool for the museum, while promoting new approaches to the interpretation, research and dissemination of artistic heritage.

The digital models offer a wide range of practical applications in different areas:

Documentation and research: they allow users to examine any detail of the surface of the objects remotely, facilitating further study.
Conservation and restoration: they support the detection of deterioration, the analysis of conservation issues and stability studies, as well as the creation of virtual reconstructions.
Education and communication: they open up new possibilities for developing educational activities, creating innovative visual narratives and sharing detailed content through social media.

With this initiative, the Museu d'Història de Girona reaffirms its commitment to research, preventive conservation and the democratisation of access to culture, using digital technologies as tools to bring heritage closer to the public.
