The event will take the format of a round table
On Wednesday, 17 June, at 7:00 p.m., the Municipal Archive of Girona will host a round-table discussion to mark the presentation of the second issue of Plecs d'Arxiu, a publication created within the framework of a collaborative project involving the Graphic Design studies at ESDAPC Campus Olot, the Bachelor's Degrees in History and Art History at the University of Girona, and the City Council of Girona.
Making the Rafael and María Teresa Santos Torroella Art Collection, Archive and Library accessible to the university community has provided an opportunity to open the Municipal Archive and the Museum of History - the institutions responsible for preserving the collection - to new audiences, while strengthening the natural connection between academia and cultural institutions. The project has fostered synergies between the academic and professional spheres and highlighted the collection's potential as a space for knowledge, interpretation and the creation of new perspectives.
The initiative has been structured around four main areas: teaching, historical research, design and institutional collaboration. On the one hand, students from the University of Girona's History and Art History degree programmes, through the course Historiography and Methodology of Art History, were given the opportunity to produce outreach texts based on primary sources, focusing on women artists and cultural managers represented in the collection. On the other hand, students from the ESDAPC Campus Olot course Typographic Design and Reproduction and Printing Materials and Systems were responsible for the typographic design inspired by the historiographical texts, as well as for the design and printing of the fanzine.
The event will feature contributions from students involved in the project, professors Gemma Reixach and Assumpta Bassas, who promoted the initiative; Anna Pujols, archivist; and visual artists Marta R. Chust and Roc Domingo Puig, whose professional careers are linked to educational projects and who collaborate with Bòlit, Girona Contemporary Art Centre.
The event will conclude a project that demonstrates how collaboration between institutions is not only possible but also a key tool for developing broader and more meaningful cross-disciplinary initiatives capable of generating shared knowledge with a tangible impact.
The event is open to everyone.
