The exhibition is part of the exhibition cycle Vicenç Huedo. (Nothing) is True.
This year, Girona pays tribute to the master artist and to his sensitive perspective on the world and the city through a programme of eight exhibitions accompanied by various activities, which will take place from 15 January to 25 May.
This afternoon the exhibition "Criticism and Commitment" opened at the Museum of History of Girona. The exhibition presents Huedo's most political and socially engaged work and is curated by Kim Bover Busquet and Carme Sais Gruart.
The exhibition forms part of the exhibition cycle Vicenç Huedo. (Nothing) is True, promoted by Girona City Council, the Casa de Cultura of the Provincial Council of Girona and the Fita Foundation.
Vicenç Huedo was a politically engaged activist in Girona during the second half of the 1970s and throughout the 1980s. He produced altruistic and critical works related to his socio-political activism, such as posters, engravings, cartoons and newspaper and magazine covers, which can be seen in the space dedicated to him at the Museum of History of Girona.
Huedo is an essential artist in Girona's artistic landscape. Throughout his life he has participated actively and with commitment in the social and political life of the city and has been an active member of its artistic scene: he was a member of the Democratic Assembly of Artists of Girona (ADAG) and a drawing teacher at the Municipal School of Art for more than three decades. His extensive artistic production includes painting, drawing and illustration through landscapes, imagined realities, still lifes, figurative works and portraits.
In addition, in connection with the exhibition, the museum will host a round table on Tuesday 24 March (6 pm) entitled "Girona in the 70s", a conversation between Joaquim Nadal, Quim Español, Carme Viñolas and Vicenç Huedo.
