Girona concludes the 40th anniversary of its twinning with Albi with a special concert

Friday, March 6, 2026

The performance by the Girona Albi Ensemble is a musical project created especially for this anniversary and brings together Occitan and Catalan musicians.

Girona City Council has concluded the celebration of the 40th anniversary of its twinning with the city of Albi with a special concert by the Girona Albi Ensemble. The free musical project was created specifically for this occasion and symbolises the cultural and human ties between the two cities. The concert took place on Thursday, March 5, at 8 pm at the La Mercè Cultural Centre Auditorium.

The Girona Albi Ensemble brought together two Catalan jazz-trained musicians, Toni Pujol and Marcel Torres, and two Occitan electro-traditional musicians, Antoine Charpentier and Igor Boyer, with the collaboration of singer Tati Cervià. Occitan bagpipes, keyboards and electronic bases combine with double bass and guitar in a proposal that blends tradition and contemporaneity.

The evening was structured in two parts: the first featuring the musicians from Albi and the second featuring the Girona ensemble. The concert concluded with a joint performance conceived as a symbol of cultural dialogue and understanding between the two territories.
