Homage to the houses on the Onyar at Museu d'Història de Girona

Tuesday, January 21, 2025

The Museu d’Història de Girona is celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the restoration of the houses on the Onyar River by displaying the color chart made by the artist Enric Ansesa at its exhibition room. At the hall, the Museum is also displaying works from its collection depicting these houses before and after the artists Jaume Roca Delpech, Pia Crozet and Josep M. de Pont Pujades worked on their facades

The restoration of the houses on Onyar started on January 19th, 1983, led by the architect Lluís Gelpí. The colors were chosen by the artists Enric Ansesa and Jaume Faixò and the two architects that designed the “Pla Especial del Barri Vell” (Special plan for the restoration of the Old Town), Josep Fuses and Josep Maria Viader. Currently, at the exhibition room from Museu d’Història de Girona, as part of the exhibition “Infralocus. The 90s in Girona, a 20-Year Decade”, visitors have the chance to see the original color chart made by the artist Enric Ansesa.
The houses on Onyar have become an icon of Girona, and they are depicted in works from the Museum’s collection, which, during January, are displayed at the hall. There are two drawings by the artist Jaume Roca Delpech where the houses can be seen prior to their restoration. Besides them, four lithographies by the artist Pia Crozet show the houses after the restoration of their facades, resulting in an explosion of color. Engravings by Josep Maria de Pont Pujades join these works.
