A plaque has been placed on Gran Via de Jaume I, in front of what used to be the old Civil Government of the city.

Girona City Council and Workers' Commissions have honored the six people who were arrested 50 years ago for organizing one of the first works commissions in the Girona counties at the Torras-Hostench factory in Sarrià de Ter. In memory of these workers, a plaque has been placed on Gran Via de Jaume I, in front of what used to be the former Civil Government and which is currently the Provincial Office of the Work Area and Immigration of the Subdelegation of the Spanish Government in Girona.

Under the title of "Labour repression in Girona at the end of the Franco regime", the plaque reviews the historical events that have been remembered today and closes the text noting that "On the 50th anniversary of the arrests, the city of Girona remembers these facts and vindicates the fight for the rights of workers".

On January 14, 1974, the Francoist regime arrested six people – five men and one woman – for setting up a workers' committee at the Torras-Hostench factory in Sarrià de Ter. These workers were accused by the Court of Public Order of Madrid of illicit association and illegal propaganda and were detained in the dungeons of the police station of the former Civil Government for the first few days and subsequently imprisoned between a week and fifteen months in Pont Major prison.

The information can also be consulted in Spanish, English and French and the piece includes a QR code that directs to the website of the Museu d'Història de Girona.
