The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939)-which this year celebrates the 80 anniversary of its end- constitutes one of the most tragic, painful and of greater political, social and cultural repercussionepisodes of the entire Catalan history of the 20th century.
The war conflict not only cut off many hopes and destroyed many other lives, but also annihilate large cultural projects linked to preservation, ans diffusion of hte land heritage. The activities of big museums, including the Archaelogy Museum of Catalonia, was considerably affected to the extreme of being forced to evacuate most of its collection to Switzerland in 1939.
The exhibition "Archeology in exile. The Museum of Archeology of Catalonia and the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) recounts this still little known episode in the cultural and patrimonial history of our country. It also wants to pay tribute to all men and women women, who despite the enormous difficulties of the war worked tirelessly to protect the Catalan cultural heritage and thus guarantee its transmission to posterity.
